BETWEEN THE TIDE: Marks of movement

The Long Gallery proudly presents an exhibition of paintings by PhD candidate in Visual Arts, Catherine Carr.
Catherine completed her Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Art) in 2004. She followed her degree with Honours in 2005 at which time she was awarded a University Medal by the University of Wollongong.
She is currently working towards her PhD based on the work of indigenous artist Rover Thomas.
During her studies, Catherine continues her own artistic practise and shares with us this collection of mixed media works on paper titled, BETWEEN THE TIDE: Marks of Movement.
From the Artist:
Stretching further than the eye can see – the shoreline – the touch point between land, sea and sky. Awe inspiring and ever-changing. Constant motion. Tidal movement – the ebb and flow of water. The touch of the water, the motion of the currents and the micro worlds that inhabit the shoreline are often overlooked. The movement from beneath - the unseen - organisms which reside below the sand, under the water. They are exposed then covered – obvious then hidden, covered then exposed. Their presence is there to be seen by the existence of their marks in the sand and in the water - in the patterns that play between the tides – ever-changing – never still. This presence is found in the changing colour all around – covered and then uncovered throughout the day and night. The imprints - the shadows - the light. Seen then unseen. Marks of movement, marks of change, and marks of the unnoticed.
